RO e-Transport: What It Is and Why It Matters for the Logistics Industry

In an increasingly regulated European environment, the RO e-Transport system is fundamentally changing how goods are monitored in Romania. As a trusted partner for companies operating in European supply chains, GOPET Romania examines the direct impact of this system on transporters and our clients.

What is RO e-Transport?

RO e-Transport is a digital platform developed by Romania’s tax authority (ANAF), designed to monitor the transport of high fiscal risk goods. Since summer 2022, it has been mandatory for domestic shipments of such goods. In December 2023, its scope extended to all international transports, regardless of the type of goods.

The system operates based on a Unique Identification Code (UIT), which must be generated before transport begins and used throughout the journey. Each shipment is tracked in real time via GPS, and the data must match what was declared in the system.

Why is this important for logistics?

For GOPET and our clients, RO e-Transport means adapting to a legal framework that demands:

  • Full transparency over goods in transit;
  • Accuracy in transport data reporting;
  • Close collaboration between sender, receiver, and carrier to ensure compliance.

At the same time, the system offers a competitive edge for companies investing in digitization and traceability. Real-time shipment monitoring boosts security, reduces tax risks, and strengthens trust in both client and regulatory relationships.

What happens in case of errors?

Authorities may carry out inspections if discrepancies are found between reported and actual shipment data. Precision and compliance are therefore critical for every logistics stakeholder.
